TOMMIE GARRETT..."The Ultimate Babysitter and Friend"
Tommie Garrett was my next door neighbor. A proud product of an non-commissioned officer, senior grade retiree of the US Army. In addition to being my neighbor, Tommie was also a babysitter, on short notices, for my brother and I. I remember him as a handsome and intelligent African-American young man. I used to tell him that I was going to marry him one day!! He was always so giving; so respectable to his elders. His two sisters, Tammy and Tonya adored him, as did his mom, Ms. Marie and his father, "SARGE". When I think of my childhood; the people that helped in molding me into a successful woman, Tommie's face and smile IMMEDIATELY come to mind! I loved him as a neighbor; respected him as a babysitter and family friend...but above all....am SO PROUD to have been a part of his life and will ALWAYS honor him in death, as a true American HERO!!
