Captain Maurice Edwin Garrett, Jr. was awarded the Army Commendation Medal, with Combat Distinguishing Device (V) and Oak Leaf Cluster, for his sustained heroism and meritorious service. He served as an Armored Reconnaissance Unit Commander (Pilot) and was assigned to A TRP, 2ND SQDN, 17TH CAVALRY, 101ST ABN DIV.

Capt M. E. Garrett was awarded the Silver Star, the Bronze Star (Merit), the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.

Dear Captain Maurice Garrett,
Thank you for your service as an Armored Reconnaissance Unit Commander (Pilot.) You are still MIA, please come home. Happy Veterans' Day. It has been too long, and it's about time for us all to acknowledge the sacrifices of those like you who answered our nation's call. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage and faithfulness. Rest in peace with the angels.

My heart is heavy and my whole being hurts when I think of you and remember. I will see you again and hug you for the longest time and cry and release all the emotional pain and sadness I feel whenever I run into something that stirs up your memory from so many years ago.
