Happy Belated 70th Birthday
Old friend, sorry I missed your 70th birthday last month. Wish you were still here to celebrate it.
The National Memorial Day Concert from Washington, on PBS, reminded me that I had forgotten. Seeing all the Vietnam-era soldiers, and listening to the stories of two of them, really made me reflective that "All Gave Some and Some (like you) Gave All." I hope to see you again, soon, man.

Thank You
Dear Lt Joseph Gambino,
Thank you for your service as as a Tactical Aircraft Pilot (Various.) I hate that you passed on your birthday, sad. It has been too long, and it's about time for us all to acknowledge the sacrifices of those like you who answered our nation's call. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage and faithfulness. Rest in peace with the angels.

Lt Joe Gambino, USAF
Joe Gambino took me on an "orientation" ride over Cambodia, the day before his birthday, 1973. He was shot-down the next day. Joe was an OV-10 pilot (Rustic) attached to the 8th TFW, Ubon; I was an intelligence officer and briefed the aircrews daily. Joe was an aggressive FAC, not reluctant to get close for a good look at his target.

Kingsbridge Little League 1961
Joe was a catcher and pitcher. Never spoke much but was solid through and through. He no-hit my team Washington Heights in August 1961. After that season I never saw him again until I went to the Memorial in Washington DC some 50 years later.
