Dear Uncle Peter,

It was really beautiful to see your name honored on the wall. I heard from your brother Luis, my father how your heart was so beautiful.
It was a huge loss and in your honor my brother Peter carries your name. You will never be forgotten. Love Patricia Aviles

do not stand at my grave and weep

Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there; I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sun on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there; I did not die.

As long as you are remembered you will always be with us.

A Cousin I never got to know.

I was 9 months old when my cousin Peter was killed in Vietnam. I'm not even sure if he ever saw or held me as a baby. My parents always made sure that I knew who Peter was and the ultimate sacrafice he gave. Until this day I think of him time to time.

Old friend

I received your letter after you passed...I brought it to your family...
You didn’t have to go because you were straight A’s in college but you left to join the marines...
Whenever you saw me on knickerbocker you always walked me home...you were a real sweetheart....
So sad...I think of you often...my husband is a Vietnam veteran and wore a bracelet with your name for many years till it just wore out...
