Ground Casualty
SSG Ernest W. Gajdosik was an Armor Reconnaissance Specialist serving with A Troop, 1st Squadron, 4th Cavalry, 1st Infantry Division. On February 20, 1967, SSG Gajdosik was on convoy escort duty when a M2 .50 caliber machine gun on a vehicle to the rear of the file accidently discharged. Gajdosik suffered a massive wound to his left chest and abdomen. He was taken to the 45th Surgical Hospital in Tay Ninh, RVN, where he expired at 6:30 PM, two hours after being injured.
