I also was stationed with the 303rd Munitions Maintenance Squadron at Bien Hoa, Viet Nam. Joe and a Sgt. Godbey had been firemen who had cross-trained to Munitions Maintenance. We all worked in the "Bomb Dump" loading ordinance on trucks for delivery to the flight line. I returned to the states in mid-May of 1970 and later learned that Joe had died. Ironically, when I returned to the states, the USAF decided that I needed to serve as a fireman. As I left the location of the Wall That Heals this afternoon in Greenfield, Indiana, Joe came to mind. It took a while to locate his information as I did not remember the correct spelling of his name.

Thank You
Dear Sgt Joseph Gagnon,
Thank you for your service with the 303rd. Happy Halloween. It has been too long, and it's about time for us all to acknowledge the sacrifices of those like you who answered our nation's call. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage and faithfulness. Rest in peace with the angels.

Roger Wood
Thank you for leaving this message. I was only 9 years old but the death of my brother left an everlasting void in my and my family's life. I remember the soldier who accompanied my brother home. I never remembered his name and have always wondered what happened to him. We had Roger over for a meal one day after the funeral. Please tell him Thank You.

My Husband Was With you
My husband Roger Wood served with you and was there with you that day. Last night he spoke in detail to me about this incident. He was asked by your parents to escort you home and he did. He remembers you and we pray for you often. May you rest in peace as you deserve it. Thank you for your service.

Remembering An American Hero
Dear SGT Joseph Dennis Gagnon, sir
As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.
May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.
With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir
Curt Carter
