Remembering An American Hero
Dear SP4 Eddie Duane Acuff, sir
As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.
May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.
With respect, Sir
Curt Carter

Eddie
You said I should take my boots off that night and I hesitated but finally did. When Steele woke me to come to the bunker I said I would be there as soon as I put my boots on. Halfway down to the bunker there was an explosion so I ran to the bunker and found you dead and the other two, Steele and Gribbons wounded. It was dark and I was yelling for a medic. I flew out with you in my care a few days later. To this day I feel guilty because if I hadn't had to have taken the time to put the boots on, it would have been me instead of you.
