Remembering An American Hero

Dear SP4 Carl T Funkhouser, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir

Curt Carter

A Hero to all American's

A Man that will never be forgotten. A true Hero that gave his all for his Family and Country. A man that stands at the top of the Mountain of Respect. God called him home to serve in the Legion of Angels. To continue to serve and protect his family.

Do not stand at my grave and weep

Do not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there; I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sun on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there; I did not die.

Sad tragedy of Vietnam

I was working on a Veteran's Day project for my son's elementary school class when I started researching information. I was about 12 years old when Carl Funkouser was killed and remember the adults talking about him going to Vietnam and then remember them talking about him being killed. I found Mr. Weisenour's poem on the web and contacted him to tell him that we appreciated it and were very touched by it. He said that Carl was actually killed by "friendly" fire when the munitions fell short of their intended target. Carl's father was so angry that he could never talk about it. Mr. Wiesenaur said that he now helps mentally ill veterans adjust in the community. The tragedy of Vietnam goes on long past the body counts, the funerals, the relatives who lost loved ones and lives on in the damaged minds of many who served. We thank Mr. Weisenaur for his poem and for his help healing the wounds that continue.
