Bill, I fought with you on the 13th,. We were on a R.O.N. and we found the enemy. You fought bravely. On the 14th I flew back with you, I was going on R&R and you were going home. I'm sorry for any disrespect for not morning your loss, I was just concerned of getting the hell out of there, please forgive me. Rest in peace brother.

Remembering An American Hero
Dear PFC William Olen Austin, sir
As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.
May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.
With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir
Curt Carter

El Paso's Best
William, I didn't know you. I saw your name today among those of the more than 3400 Texans who were killed in this war. I'm from El Paso, too, and an Air Force Vet. I just want you and those who love you to know that the sacrifice you and they made will never be forgotten by this Texan. Rest in peace, William.
