Remembering An American Hero

Dear PFC Charles Emmett Frederick, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir

Curt Carter

My Great Uncle Chuck entered the army on June 8, 1965. He was assigned to the infantry as a machine gunner in Company C, First Battalion, 7th Calvary. He was killed in action January 1, 1966. I really do not have much information on him other than the old news paper articles reporting his death but I do have a photo of Chuck and I wanted to post it.

for heroism in connection with military operations against a hostile force ,private 1st class frederick distinguished himself by heroic action on 31 january 1966, in the battle of the bong son river valley, republic of viet nam ... in defense of a portion of the battaliuon perimeter.he received heavy automatic weapons and sniper fire from an enemy trying to penetrate the perimeter. during the battle, a concentrated effort was made by the enemy to destroy a machine position occupied by pfc frederick and two other members of the machine gun crew.with complete disregard for his own personal safty, pfc frederick displayed unfaltering courage by holding off the enemy's repeated attempts to overrun his position. it was during this encounter that pfc frederick was mortally wounded.his brave actions helped give his fellow soldiers confidence in themselves and played a key role in the successful defeat of the enemy attack. pfc frederick's outstanding display of aggressiveness, devotion to duty, and personal bravery is in keeping with the highest tradition of the military service and reflects great credit upon himself, his unit, and the u.s. army, signed john norton major general u.s. army and stanley resnor, secretary of the army.he was the 1st to be killed from bellevue,oh.born on the 5th of july 1944, he received the bronze star for heroism (posthumously).he was 1st reported as m.i.a but soon after reported as k.i.a. assigned to the infantry 1st battalion of the 7th cavalry (airmbile) c company as a mechine gunner.he was killed during the begining of operation masher in bong son.please help me out with some photos or any info or just say hi. hopefully i can make his own website in the future
