CHOICES FOR THE NIGHT & HIS LAST
my name Mike Ambra, the attending corpsman at that mortar barrage. at 3 AM 5 July Doc Acton lay mortally wounded in the heart from shrapnel. 3 feet away lay the Machine Gunner who took a direct hit inside the gunners nest, both legs obliterated. The gunner was trying to get the Docs 45 for a suicide. I removed the 45 and listened at Actons chest as the last heartbeat, weakly finished beating. acton was my senior Doc. Now I was to fill his position. I was 21. Now I`m 66. Doc Acton was very skilled and professional. I was lucky to have apprenticed under him. i can still remember his face, and how proud he was working with Marines.

do not stand at my grave and weep
Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there; I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sun on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there; I did not die.
As long as you are remembered you will never die...
I am not there; I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sun on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
