Thank You

Dear PFC Leon Fox,
Thank you for your service as a Field Artillery Basic. It is Columbus Day weekend, and another national holiday has arrived. It has been too long, and it's about time for us all to acknowledge the sacrifices of those like you who answered our nation's call. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage and faithfulness. Rest in peace with the angels.

Final Mission of PFC Leon V. Fox

SSGT Thurman Adair, CPL Bernis J. Noviski, and PFC Leon V. Fox were cannon crewmembers serving with C Battery, 6th Battalion, 16th Artillery, 1st Cavalry Division. On December 18, 1966, they were performing a fire support mission at LZ Bird on the Kim Song River in Binh Dinh Province, RVN, when the breech block on the 155mm howitzer they were operating exploded. SSGT Adair and PFC Fox were killed in the blast. CPL Noviski was critically injured with burns to 40% of his body and internal injuries. He was evacuated to the United States and died 5 days later of peritonitis at Brooke General Hospital in Fort Sam Houston, TX. [Taken from coffeltdatabase.org]

Remembering An American Hero

Dear PFC Leon Vincent Fox, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir

Curt Carter
