Currahee.
"On July 18, (1969), enemy mortar fire claimed the life of another Currahee from 1st Platoon, Company B. Sgt. Roger Earl Foreman, 21, of New Town, North Dakota."
This from, "The Stand Alone Battalion" by Jerald Berry and Joe Alexander.
From his obit, from the Minot, North Dakota paper:
"Roger was born August 4, 1947, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Foreman of New Town. He would have been 22 on August 4th.
Sgt. Foreman, who would have been rotated home September 4th after having completed a year in Vietnam, was the leader of a platoon on a patrol mission which encountered hostile forces, during which action, he was killed.
He was a member of the 101st Airborne Division (3-506th Infantry, Currahees) and on Feb. 22 received a commendation medal for heroism in action. He also had been awarded the air medal and the Combat Infantry Badge."
Roger was a graduate of New Town High School, Class of 1965.
He was a member of Boys Chorus, Mixed Chorus, Letterman's Club, played Basketball and Football all four years and was on the Track Team for three.
His parents were given his medals in a ceremony following his funeral.
They were given two Oak Leaf Clusters to the Bronze Star Medal, one with the V-device for valor, Purple Heart Medal; and the Good Conduct Medal.
Roger is buried in the Riverview Cemetery, Sanish, North Dakota.
God rest your soul Currahee.
