Remembering An American Hero

Dear 1LT Benjamin Stephen Fordham, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, Sir

Curt Carter

Walter Eeds

High school roommate and friend. I just looked this up and felt compelled to write something. Steve and I were real close and roomed together in military school. We played football and basketball together. He was a year older than I was and played fullback and linebacker. I was a quarterback and always hated it when we scrimmaged and he was on defense. Without a doubt, he was the toughest high school football player I ever saw.

Tough, yes and balls of a lion. But, he was one of the greatest guys I have ever known. I was an Army Officer when he was killed and went to his funeral in South Texas. The only time I have been to "The Wall" it was with the express intent of touching his name on it. I did, and I will never forget you, Steve.

Time blurs the sadness only. I look forward to the next quarter, brother.
