Salute

Robert was born at the Elgin Air Force Base FL, the son of Emma R. Ficsher of Clarksville TN and Chief MSgt Elmer C. Fischer. He enlisted in the US Marine Corps on August 11 1967 in Philadelphia PA and arrived in Vietnam on January 15 1968 where he was assigned to Company K, 3d Battlion, 26th Marines, 1st MARDIV (Rein) FMF.

On November 27, during Operation MEADE RIVER in the Dien Ban District of Quang Nam Province the Marines were searching through the hamlet of Ky Long (2) in an area known to the men as DODGE CITY when contact with an enemy force was made. During the fire fight several men were wounded requiring evacuation. Wounded by enemy gun fire, Cpl Fischer was evacuated to Da Nang and then transferred to the Third Army Filed Hospital in Saigon where he died as a result of kidney failure due to his wound.

Cpl Robert P Fischer, 20-year old Marine, died Dec 4 of wounds received in action in Vietnam on Nov 27, during "Operation Meade River '

Cpl Fischer was born in Valparaiso and lived in the area while his father was stationed at Eglin. He now resides in Oak Grove, Ky. He is also survived by a brother. Spec 6 Russell C Fischer of Fort Campbell, Ky.

Graveside funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Sunset Cemetery with full military honors. A military chaplain will conduct the services, McLaughlin Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
