My mother knew you
I am a young man from Louisiana born in 1987, my mother was from Eunice and she told me stories of your family when they got the news of your passing in Vietnam.
I never knew you, but you always served as a link to our collective past. I visited your grave site, visited your name on the wall, and served in the USMC in your honor ‘06-‘14. Semper Fi Devil Dog.

it has been...
...many years, Donald, since i received that call from Darryl that you had been hit, followed the next day by another call that you had died. i have thought of you so many times over the last half century+ with sadness and loss as i reflect on you never knowing marriage and fatherhood. now that so many years have passed, i find it soothing to know that, when my time comes, there will be a reunion of my 'Best Man' and myself again. Rest in Peace, Brother. we are all coming back to you one day.
