do not stand at my grave and weep
Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I am not there. I did not die.
Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I am not there. I did not die.

Acknowledgment from a fellow Tennessean
SFC Ferrell, I’m reading COL Hal Moore’s book ‘We Were Soldiers’ and I’ve come to the part that mentions you and your nickname as ‘pappy.’ I wanted to acknowledge you, Sarge and let you know that you are remembered, therefore your legacy lives on. I’m a newly minted Warrant Officer and I’d like to think I’d be as brave as you in the face of the enemy, but I know that men of my generation are not made from the same cloth as yours. Just know Sarge, all of us down here on earth are maintaining the fight!
