Staff Sergeant Walter Ferguson, Jr. was awarded the Prisoner of War Medal after he was taken prisoner while engaged in action and held captive. He served as an Infantryman and was assigned to D CO, 1ST BN, 2ND INFANTRY, 1ST INF DIV.

I was 10 years old when you were drafted in the army, the day before our mother's birthday. I still have the little necklace you give me the day before you left for basic training.

It is Labor Day weekend, and we remember you all. It has been too long, and it's about time for us all to acknowledge the sacrifices of those like you who answered our nation's call. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage and faithfulness. Be at peace.
