Remembering a Fellow Classmate and Hero
Dear Lance Corporal Laurence Ashmore, Sir,
I knew you in high school as simply "Larry Ashmore." We were fellow classmates at Memorial High School in Houston, Texas. Our graduation day, ironically, was on Memorial Day, 1967. So many years have long since passed since that day. It seems only fitting, that as our class prepares to celebrate our fiftieth reunion and you won't be with us, that we take a moment to remember our treasured friend, our classmate, and a true American hero. As fate would have it, you died in South Vietnam, the sixth of May, 1968. Such promise, treasure and hope for the future taken from us. You were only nineteen. Seeing your name, with the thousands of others on the travelling Wall, Veteran's Day, 1997, a whole generation of young men there; I wept unabashedly. We will never forget you, we will remember your place in history, and we will always remember your sacrifice. Thank you for defending our freedoms! Until we meet again, adios dear friend and Patriot.

Remembering An American Hero
Dear LCPL Laurence Ray Ashmore, sir
As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.
With respect, Sir
