REMEMBRANCES

LEFT FOR ROCKFORD GREY EVERETT
POSTED ON 1.28.2015

Happy Birthday!

Today you would have been 68. Although you left this world before I ever came into it, I feel like I have known you my whole life. Your memory lives on in my home and so many others. You are so loved and missed! I wish I could have known you personally and that my sons were able to hear your wonderful life stories from you.

(My grandfather is Rocky's father were brother, making me Rocky's second cousin. Rocky's picture is in my dining room and he is spoke of daily. Rocky was at Schofield Barracks, Oahu, HI and ironically my family was stationed there also, just much later in life. My boys loved visiting Rocky's memorial brick at the Garrison Building on post.)

Remembering you on Memorial Day

Although I don't recall ever meeting Rocky, my father and LL (Rocky's dad) were on the same flight crew out of Columbus AFB - I can remember the devastation that my parents felt for LL and Frankie when they learned of Rocky's death. This memorial day I was remembering the men and women who serve this great country and I thought about Rocky and hoped that he did not slip away into obscurity. It is comforting to see he is remembered.

Remembering An American Hero

Dear PFC Rockford Grey Everett, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, Sir

Curt Carter

A Great Guy

Rocky was a wonderful friend I knew from our hometown of Columbus, MS, and as a fellow student at Mississippi State University. I remember vividly the day he left for Vietnam. He told me that day that he would never see me again. He said felt certain that he would be killed there. Barely a week went by before we learned of his death.

When I visited the Wall in Washington I found his name. I will always honor his memory. Each time I stand for the National Anthem I salute the flag at the conclusion in remembrance of Rocky. I know he is with the Lord, and I will see him again some day.
