Ground Casualty

FSB South I, two miles from the Cambodian border in Tay Ninh Province, RVN, was a specially-designed fire support base housing twenty-four 155mm artillery tubes to provide support for nearby Allied operations into Cambodia. The base was occupied by elements of the 11th Armored Cavalry. On the night of May 3-4, 1970, FSB South I was assaulted by a hostile force. Three troopers were killed in the attack. They included SGT Ray F. Evans, PFC Leon Garnett Jr., and SP4 Ernest R. Lasher Jr. [Taken from coffeltdatabase.org]

Dear Sgt Ray Evans,
Thank you for your service as a Cannon Crewmember. It is important for us to remember all of you. It has been too long, and it's about time for us all to acknowledge the sacrifices of those like you who answered our nation's call. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage and faithfulness. Rest in peace with the angels.

Remembering An American Hero

Dear SGT Ray Francis Evans, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, Sir

Curt Carter
