Final Mission of CPT Dalton M. Estein
MAJ Ralph C. Wight Jr. and CPT Dalton M. Estein were maintenance officers serving with Headquarters & Headquarters Company (HHC), 185th Maintenance Battalion, 29th General Support Group, Army Support Command Saigon, 1st Logistical Command. On April 6, 1968, they conducted visits to battalion units at Bearcat Base in Bien Hoa Province, RVN. At approximately 10:20 PM, while returning to Long Binh Post, their jeep was hit by a Claymore mine or anti-tank round while traveling north on National Highway QL-15. Both men suffered fatal injuries in the attack. Their remains were taken to the 24th Evacuation Hospital at Long Binh and transferred to Graves Registration personnel.
