I remember the day in the "Nook" restaurant downtown Danville when Bobby told me he was going to sign up for the military. Looking back on it I realize that was the last time I ever say my friend Bobby.
Damn, we had some good times in grade school. Bye Bobby....RIP
Remembrance by his brother John
Bob was born 11 October 1945, the son of Dr John W. and Marion S. Enderby in Danville,Illinois. He was chosen Best Boy citizen upon graduation from Washington Grade School in 1959. He was a graduate from Danville High School, class of 1963. Attended the University of Illinois for two years and was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon.
Bob was an Eagle Scout and a member of the First Presbyterian Church. He joined the U S Marine Corp in March 1966.
Lcpl Robert F Enderby USMC, was killed in action on Hill 800 south of Hill 880 South on 7 June 1967. He was killed by a mortar round during a firefight with the North Vietnamese.
He had to two other brothers, William R Enderby (deceased) and John S Enderby.
A reunion was held 30 Jul 2010, in Mitchell, South Dakota and all remaining members of Bob's platoon, the 3rd Platoon, Bravo Company, 1st Battalion 26th Marine Regiment were in attendance and it was a time to remember and honor all.
