If I sjhould die...remembrances for CAPT. John Phillip EMRATH, USA...who made the ultimate sacrifice
If I should die, and leave you here awhile, be not like others, sore undone, who keep long vigils by the silent dust, and weep...for MY sake, turn again to life, and smile...Nerving thy heart, and trembling hand to do something to comfort other hearts than thine...Complete these dear, unfinished tasks of mine...and I, perchnace, may therein comfort you.

former member of his company
Captain Emrath was my company commander of C 2/12 First Cavalry Division when I arrived in Vietnam in Nov. 1968. Later he became a part of our battalion operations staff. He was killed when a 122mm. rocket hit the 2/12 TOC at LZ Grant in Tay Ninh province. Two others, LTC. Peter Gorvad and 1st. Lt. Peter Tripp were also lost when the rocket pierced several layers of sandbags with delayed fuse. Ten additional men were lost the same night in the March 8, 1969, battle for LZ Grant.

He believed in what he was doing !
My name is L. T. Murdock and I was with Cpt Emrath the night he died for his country. He was a fine officer and believed in what he was doing. He was well respeced and admired by those he came in contact with. HE IS MISSED.
