High School Friend

David had a ready smile, and twinkling eyes when I knew him in high school. It was a huge loss to his family, our community, and to our class when he died. It's still sad to think of his passing all these years later.

A personal memory

I did not know David, but I had the honor of escorting him home to his family for burial in Crosby ND. We were nearly the same age and in the Army, me in Ft Carson CO. Why David, not me.
His family was so kind to me; his mother sent a very nice note to my parents. I read it now and then, and I think of David often, even after these fifty years.

Thank You

Dear Cpl David Elsbernd,
Thank you for your service as an Infantryman. We remember all you who gave their all. It has been too long, and it's about time for us all to acknowledge the sacrifices of those like you who answered our nation's call. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage and faithfulness. Rest in peace with the angels.

Remembering An American Hero

Dear CPL David Duane Elsbernd, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, Sir

Curt Carter
