Bridge named in your honor.
Yesterday we had the ceremony naming the bridge on Jack Rd, Chambersburg PA the Sergeant Melvin G. Ehrhart Memorial Bridge. We chose that bridge because it connects the two townships that you and I lived when we started dating. You had to cross over it to pick me up for our dates. You would be so proud of our daughter, Melinda. And our 2 beautiful grandchildren have grown into fantastic adults. There were so many friends and relatives that came to honor you. It was a beautiful ceremony. Trust me, Hon, I think of you so much, still miss you and will always love you.
Till we meet again.
Your loving wife. Darlene

An Honorable Man
I served with Melvin ( aka Butch ) as his RTO when I first arrived in Dagger Company 4th of the 39th. This was late in March of 1969 ( about this date 50 years ago ) . Butch was a serious guy and was winding down his one year tour in the 9th. He was so excited to see photo's of his new born Daughter when she arrived. I would have been right next to Butch the day he made the ultimate sacrifice but I switched my RTO duty to the Platoon leader and another hero took the radio for Butch . It was a very sad day in my life to see many comrades including Melvin leave for Heaven. We were both from PA so we had some memories to share during our short 30 day friendship . RIP Brother.

Thank You
Dear Sgt Melvin Ehrhart,
Thank you for your service as an Infantryman. We remember all you who gave their all. It has been too long, and it's about time for us all to acknowledge the sacrifices of those like you who answered our nation's call. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage and faithfulness. Rest in peace with the angels.
