Sergeant Melvin Grayson Ehrhart was awarded the Silver Star Medal for his conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action. He served as an Infantryman and was assigned to D CO, 4TH BN, 39TH INFANTRY, 9TH INF DIV.

Sergeant Melvin Grayson Ehrhart was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for Valor, with Combat Distinguishing Device (V), for his exemplary gallantry in action. He was also awarded the Bronze Star Medal for Merit for his sustained meritorious service. He served as an Infantryman and was assigned to D CO, 4TH BN, 39TH INFANTRY, 9TH INF DIV.

Yesterday we had the ceremony naming the bridge on Jack Rd, Chambersburg PA the Sergeant Melvin G. Ehrhart Memorial Bridge. We chose that bridge because it connects the two townships that you and I lived when we started dating. You had to cross over it to pick me up for our dates. You would be so proud of our daughter, Melinda. And our 2 beautiful grandchildren have grown into fantastic adults. There were so many friends and relatives that came to honor you. It was a beautiful ceremony. Trust me, Hon, I think of you so much, still miss you and will always love you.
