To Billy

I still remember the cat we tried to cut up when we were kids
But Pic I still blame myself for that day. I would take your place anytime so that you could be here today. Love your

My Flaming I 3/9 Brother.

Billy Edmonds was a machine gunner in my platoon, 2nd Plt. India Co. 3/9. Billy was an outstanding Marine liked and respected by every man in "The Flaming I". His gun team accompanied my squad on more patrols and operations than I can remember. He truly cared about his Marine brothers as evidenced by his action during "Operation Buffalo". Billy was recuperating in the rear when the call went out for all able bodied Marines to join their companys on the operation. Billy had specific orders from First Sgt. Bryce Lee to stay put in the rear. Billy ignored this order along with the chief clerk's reminder that he stay at Cam Lo. Billy knew we needed everyone on this operation so nothing or no one could stop him from joining his brothers at this time of need. I could not believe that the sniper's round had hit Billy. Geoff Lombard, Billy's team leader, held him in his arms and he was gone. I removed one of Billy's dog tags to turn in but for whatever reason it ended up in my squad notebook. I still have Billy's dog tag and would like to return it to his family if his family will contact me. I will always remember my Marine Brother Billy Edmonds. Semper Fidelis.
