THE WALL OF FACES

Thank you Corporal Dyer for your leadership and exemplary courage under fire.

i also attended so. pasadena high school and remember both terry and his brother kim. we all worked at the mcdonalds in so. pasadena. i remember the day that terry came into the business in his class A uniform after graduating from basic training.....so shining and so proud.....us young men gathered around to admire him....and then less than a year later, we learned that he had been killed in action.....and i remember kim,(who still worked next to me on the grill), kim....who was tougher than his brother....just break down and cry.

this is what i remember.....and i went to the wall on tour when it came to salt lake city....and etched his name with a pencil....which i still have ,along with the name of william young,(my sisters boyfriend at the time) who also was killed in vietnam.

i am now 63 years old, operating a shoe repair shop in salt lake city that i founded in 1984. served six years in the national guard from 1971 to 1977.

i did not graduate from so.pasadena high....ran away six weeks before graduation from an abusive household.......studied music later at pasadena city college and got my GED. over the years i became an accomplished classical guitarist....i got a chance to live my life....which is why terry`s untimely death has had such an unforgettable impact on me. we loved him.

I am the niece of Terry Brooks Dyer. I was born a little over a year after his death. My name is Terri Ann Hoffman. I didn't truly know what love was until I heard all the stories of my Uncle Terry. He was and forever will be an awesome human. An amazing solider. He loved his family, friends, but most of all he loved his country.

Dear CPL Terry Brooks Dyer, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.
