A Patient on the Hospital Ship USS Sanctuary

On July 31, 1969, I assisted in surgery on CPL Dwyer. I was an Operating Room Technician. Three Navy surgeons did their best, but CPL Dwyer did not survive his wounds.

do not stand at my grave and weep

Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I am not there. I did not die.

Thank You

Dear Cpl Michael Dwyer,
Thank you for your service as an Infantryman. Today is Independence Day, and we remember your sacrifice. We remember all you who gave their all. It has been too long, and it's about time for us all to acknowledge the sacrifices of those like you who answered our nation's call. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage and faithfulness. Rest in peace with the angels.

Neighborhood Friend

Mike, I spent a lot of time in your house as your sisters were my friends. I remember well your passing, your viewing and funeral mass. I was 16. I visited the Wall over 30 years ago and traced your name. Last May 2017 I made a trip home and on Memorial Day and placed a wreath and flag on your grave. Two of my uncle's were Vietnam veterans, one receiving the Purple Heart. Mystery has always surrounded your death your last day in Nam, accidental homicide. Heartbreaking. RIP Mike. Semper Fi, always faithful.
