My cousin, my hero
David was my first cousin and although I was only 8 years old when he went to Vietnam I still remember it very well. His mother and my father were siblings and we visited each other very often. The last time I saw David was about 4 months before he died. He came to our house to visit before he left for Vietnam in his black VW beetle .It was Sunday and he stay all day. David and my three brothers all had a water gun battle in a pouring rainstorm that day. We played together most of the day.
I remember watching him leave that evening not knowing that he would never come back. I also remember the post cards he sent me after he was deployed. Worst of all I remember that cold winter day when my dear mother told me that David was in heaven. I remember crying all evening and going to the service and not being able to understand why it had happened. I remember my father telling me that David was a hero and that I should always remember that. I remember you David, you will always be my hero.

honoring you...
A butterfly lights beside us like a sunbeam
And for a brief moment its glory
and beauty belong to our world
But then it flies again
And though we wish it could have stayed...
We feel lucky to have seen it.

Thank You
Dear Sp4 David Dunford,
Thank you for your service as an Infantryman. Independence Day is approaching, and we remember your sacrifice. We remember all you who gave their all. It has been too long, and it's about time for us all to acknowledge the sacrifices of those like you who answered our nation's call. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage and faithfulness. Rest in peace with the angels.
