A letter from Melissa

Dear Grandpa,
You don't know me, but I've heard a lot about you from my mom and all of my aunts and grandma. I am your oldest granddaughter/third oldest grandchild. My name is Melissa. I am Patti Ann's daughter. I am the oldest and I have a younger brother named Joey. We live in Safford, Arizona along with my Aunt Donna.

I am 19 years old now and I'm attending Northern Arizona University. I am an accounting major and I'm loving the college life. I will graduate in 3 years and I am very much looking forward to that.

Well, I just wanted to tell you a little bit about myself. I wish I could have met you because the way you were described you seemed like a great man.

Love,
Melissa Jo Quinn

A Poem From Batman

Dear Dad,

Sometimes I get discouraged
Because I was so small
When you were taken from us
Now your name is on the wall

I never really knew you
You left when I was two
To lend your help to others
As God would have you do

For my mother and her girls
The news was very sad
We had to go on living
Without our soldier Dad

Years passed but we got by
Grandma helped us through
Until a brave new Dad
Was sent by God and you

And then we got a brother
The grandsons finally came
Three of them to carry on
The other Daddy’s name

As we all grew up
You watched us from up there
You were our guardian angel
Who guided us with care

Now your girls are grown
And our children total nine
Your memory lives on
In all their hearts and mine

It never really ends
The family keeps on growing
You and Mother taught us
Without even knowing

Family is a gift
From Heaven up above
Eighteen great grandchildren
The true meaning of LOVE!

To Dad and Grandpa with love,
Debbie (Batman) and Ivy

A letter to a wonderful husband and Dad

Oliver, you would be very proud of your four daughters and your nine grandchildren. I know because I am the mother and grandmother of your children. I loved you so very much and we were so happy. I remember that I didn't want you to go to Viet Nam. But you told me that you had to do your duty. The night you left, I felt as though part of me had died. I thought I would never stop crying. But with the help of family and friends, I did survive.

I remarried two years after your death. I have a wonderful husband and he has been a wonderful Dad to our daughters and is a wonderful grandfather. We have a son together and you would love him.

I still miss you to this day and have wondered so many times what our lives would have been like. Where you would have worked after retiring from the Army and where we would be living today.

I love you and miss you; Jeri
