THE WALL OF FACES

I dated Jim in college & often wondered about him. I. I finally know. He was such a fun, sincere and honorable guy. I was not surprised that he served his country so valiantly. I will always remember happy times. His love of his old Mercedes and that he introduced me to slow gin.

We met on that morning. I had seen the Lt. many times, on the flight line, checking the units that he would fly. Although we hadn't officially met till the morning of the incident, I really didn't know what to make of him. As he approached me, ( I was a crew chief on a slick, at the time) he smiled and we talked. We had talked about becoming more acquainted in the future. He was not the person that I had assumed he would be. I had looked forward to further conversation with him. Unfortunately that time never came. Though we try to forget Vietnam and the things associated with it; that morning has never been forgotten. Rest in peace and may we remember the good, not the bad.

Dear Lt James Dugger,
Thank you for your service as a Rotary Wing Aviation Unit Commander - Helicopter Pilot. Independence Day is approaching, and we remember your sacrifice. We remember all you who gave their all. It has been too long, and it's about time for us all to acknowledge the sacrifices of those like you who answered our nation's call. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage and faithfulness. Rest in peace with the angels.

1Lt Dugger will always be remembered as a wonderful member and pilot of the 57th Assault Helicopter Pilot. Lt. Dugger gave his life helping others being
overrun on a firebase asking to be evacuated. Lt. Dugger was returning Camp
Holloway from another mission when he intercepted a message of distress,
Lt. Dugger took that assignment and his Helicopter took mortar through the
cockpit after landing to retrieve individuals from the firebase.

Jim was our Brigade Commander while I was a fellow member of the Advanced ROTC program at ETSU. Jim was imposing and every inch the image of a professional soldier. His devotion to service and ultimate sacrifice should be honored and remembered by all who knew him. May he rest in peace.
