Dear BM1 Robert Dow,
Thank you for your service as a Boatswain's Mate 1st Class on the U.S.S. GOLDSBOROUGH. We remember all you who gave their all. It has been too long, and it's about time for us all to acknowledge the sacrifices of those like you who answered our nation's call. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage and faithfulness. Rest in peace with the angels.

On December 19, 1972, while conducting a gunfire mission, the USS Goldsborough (DDG 20) was hit by enemy coastal artillery counter-battery fire north of the DMZ. The shore battery put a hole five feet wide through an upper deck of the ship. Two sailors, HTC Donald A. Dix and BM1 Robert M. Dow, were killed, and six were injured in the incident. One of the six injured, HT2 Gary L. Boyce, was medically evacuated to the United States Air Force Hospital at Clark Air Base in the Philippines, where he died January 1, 1973, from sepsis due to renal failure and traumas as a result of the wounds he received.
