My Cousin Ricky
Memorial Day, 2024
I found this remembrance page a couple years ago but couldn't find the words to express how much you are loved and missed.
Here is a feeble attempt:
Ricky, you were like a big brother to your younger cousins, and we all looked up to you.
I have vivid memories of playing hide and seek in the yard at Nanny & Grampy's house at dusk. It was the R's against the K's. (Ruthie & Ricky vs. Kenny and Karen)
I remember you giving all the ladies/girls in the family a red carnation on Easter one year. (You were probably just in high school at the time - so sweet.)
One snowy day in Silver Lake, I remember you putting ice and wet paper towels on Ruthie's mouth when she crashed while snow sledding - probably where we should not have been sledding!
I remember the tree house you built in a large oak tree at the cabin. (Maybe in competition with the one Kenny had built?)
I remember you offering to give us all a ride in your new car, but kiddingly telling us we had to remove our shoes first.
Mostly, I remember your kind and gentle demeanor, huge smile, and sense of humor.
Your loss left a tremendous hole in the heart of our small, close family, but we are all SO proud of you.
Tears come as easily today as in August, 1969.
You are always in my thoughts and prayers, and I pray some day I'll see my cousin Ricky again. XO

A Friend
Richie,
We were friends at Westchester Community College back in 1965-66. will never forget how you handed me the keys to your brand new Mustang and said "Go take it for a ride". I was a nervous wreck as I made one pass around the parking lot. My heart sank when I heard the news of your passsing in Viet Nam. It was about 57 years ago that I last saw you. I will never forget your constant smile or the kindness you showed all of your classmates. RIP my friend!
