Remembering An American Hero

Dear 1LT Robert Hughes Donaway, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir

Curt Carter

Remembrance

The family of Robert Hughes Donoway was political. 'Hughes' (his middle name) was a Delaware U.S. Senator related to him. His family, his friends--we all truly expected him to some day be Governor of Delaware. Just one of many ways his death adversely affected those of us here at home.

We will never forget!

It's been many years now that I was a student of yours. My freshman year at Newark High we were told of your ultimate sacrifice(Sept1969) With sadness in our hearts we went on not understanding why you had to leave and pay the price you did for us all.
You taught us core values that we could not comprehend at the importance at that time. Honesty, integrity, loyalty you demanded from us, some did others did not. I will never forget you, you helped mold me like so many others and I am grateful for all you did. Rest in Peace Mr. Donaway Duty nobly done I salute you!
