Thank You

Dear PFC Ernesto Dominguez,
Thank you for your service as an Airborne Qualified Light & Vehicle Driver. Your 50th anniversary is soon, sigh. Yesterday was Memorial Day, and we remember all you who gave their all. It has been too long, and it's about time for us all to acknowledge the sacrifices of those like you who answered our nation's call. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage and faithfulness. Rest in peace with the angels.

He fell with his face to the foe.

Ernie's smile always cheered. HIs confidence was contagious. He was so certain about his becoming a soldier.
Last year we--young, old, athletes all, honoring Coach (Krafve) as they dedicated a plaque to his work at EB. The meeting turned out to be a memorial to East Bakersfield High School athletes who had gone to Vietnam and had been killed. Lots of love for Ernie's memory, his laughter and his certainty and how he prevailed over any and all things negative.
His death was not only a crushing blow, but a surprise. How could ERNIE not survive?

"For the Fallen"
They went with songs to the battle, they were young,
Straight of limb, true of eye, steady and aglow.
They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted;
They fell with their faces to the foe.
Robert Laurence Binyon, 1914

This sculpture of an army nurse represents the dedication of my nursing care to all the wounded, strangers to me then yet guided by my sacrosanct friendships with those who died and the treasures they have become in my heart.

Remembering an American Hero

Dear PFC Ernesto Dominguez, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir

Curt Carter
