Ground Casualty
During the month of October 1965, the 7th Marines, 3rd Marine Division conducted search and destroy operations in southern Military Region I. Mail for the regiment was moved on a daily basis between Da Nang and Chu Lai by couriers from Headquarters Company, 7th Marines. On October 11th, an administrative man and his driver were traveling in a jeep on a mail run near Chu Lai in Quang Tin Province when they hit a cable suspended from a section of a causeway on a beach to a parked LVTP-5 amphibious tractor. Apparently, neither Marine saw the cable which hit both men across the neck, killing them instantly. The lost personnel were driver Pvt Victor R. Parker and LCpl James R. Dischert. The Uncle I never met
Uncle Jim, I had the privilege and honor this past weekend to deliver the Vietnam War Veterans Commemoration speech for the community I live in now out here in PA. Thank you for being an inspiration to this Corpsman turned Pharmacist and now Naval Officer retiree. While I delivered my speech, I was continually struck by the attention of eyes that were on me in the crowd, all of which were those that served with you - the rest clearly only half-listening. It renewed my sense of pride and patroitism because I will not forget you, nor the 6 million brothers/sisters-in-arms you served with that also don't get their due recognition. God's Speed Marine, I look forward to the day we get to meet. Semper Fi!

THANK YOU
Dear Lcpl James Dischert,
Thank you for your service as an Administration Chief. Memorial Day is coming up, and we remember all you who gave their all. It has been too long, and it's about time for us all to acknowledge the sacrifices of those like you who answered our nation's call. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage and faithfulness. Rest in peace with the angels.
