Squad leader...

Desmarais...my name is Steve Durbin (Durb). I was your squad leader up until about an hour before your death. I had just pulled in to Dong Ha on my way home after 13 months when I received word of the mortar attack that wounded and killed both you and another squad member, (Peder Armstrong). I had made a promise to you that I would get you out of Vietnam alive...I failed and 50+ years later I still wonder if I hadn't been pulled out of the field that day, you and Armstrong would still be alive?!

honoring you...

Thank you for your service to our country so long ago sir. I am 73 and have lived a long and fulfilling life. It is tragic you never had that same opportunity. May you rest in eternal peace.

Never Forgotten

We didn’t know you but it sure felt like we did. Even though your baby sister Sherry wasn’t born yet, she talks about you all of the time and it’s like you’re here. Thank you so much for your service and your ultimate sacrifice to our great country! You’ll never be forgotten. Diana and Paul
