THE WALL OF FACES

Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there. I do not sleep.

I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.

When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I am not there. I did not die.

I never knew you, but I want you to know that your life's sacrifice was not in vain. Offering my respect and gratitude as I touched your name on the Wall in Punta Gorda, I now hope that you and your loved ones rest well.

Dear PFC William Derksema,
Thank you for your service as a Rifleman. It has been too long, and it's about time for us all to acknowledge the sacrifices of those like you who answered our nation's call. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage and faithfulness. Rest in peace with the angels.
