Mark "Vesuvius" Dennis (Sparky)
Mark Dennis chose to join the United States Navy. They decided to send him to Vietnam. He served his country with pride and dignity. In July, 1966, the USN declared Mark as "Killed In Action", and shortly thereafter they shipped back to Miamisburg the body that they claimed was his. In 1970 that body was exhumed and was absolutely declared to not be Mark Dennis.
I was a 15 year old girl in 1966, and Mark was a good friend and engaged to one of my friends from our church. My world was devastated that day. OUR worlds were forever changed, not by Mark's death, but by the fact that there was no proof of his death and no body for us to lay to rest in Miamisburg, his home. I went to the traveling Vietnam Veterans' Wall. I, like so many others, made a paper copy of his name. That's all we have of Mark Dennis, his name. He was an exceptional human being who was a little shy before he got to know you, but a stand up guy, and a wonderful friend. His potential was beyond amazing! I pray that he did survive and is healing people both physically and spiritually somewhere in the world. I won't write RIP for Mark, instead I say God bless you, Mark, until we meet again.
