Remembering An American Hero

Dear EN3 Dewey Russell Decker, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, Sir

Curt Carter

My Friend Dewey

Before his shipmates knew Dewey, I knew him. He was a big gentle teddy bear. We met at the local roller rink in Charlotte, MI. Though he was older than me we became fast friends. Like a big brother, he even gave me a nickname, "Rabbit". This gentle teddy bear will forever be in my heart, forever remembered and forever missed. I am so proud to say he was my dear, dear friend. Everytime I think of him, I whisper a thank you for his friendship and his ultimate sacrifice. I know he hears me.

And for Lew Holley, Dewey is buried at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens, Okemos, Ingham County, MI.
