Del Mar Tech were in welding classes

I remember when you got your draft notice and you left to go in the military. I also received my draft notice and also left to go in the military.
I was in Infantry and received my orders for Vietnam. On my leave before I went to Vietnam at the airport I met a group of soldiers that were from Robstown. I asked if they knew you and was told that you had been killed.

Thank You

Dear Cpl Mario Deleon,
Thank you for your service as an Infantryman. It has been too long, and it's about time for us all to acknowledge the sacrifices of those like you who answered our nation's call. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage and faithfulness. Rest in peace with the angels.

Proud of my Cousin's service

As I recall, it was early in the year of 1969. My cousin Mario had visited our family in Laredo just days before being shipped out to Vietnam. My two oldest brothers who had been like brothers to Mario engaged in a conversation with him that I'll always remember. He was ready to go to battle and face his destiny, he said "I am ready to kill anyone that is trying to kill me". Mario had been in Vietnam around six months when he was shot dead in an ambush. By this time, he had already been the recipient of the Purple Heart Medal. Mario did not want to leave his
combat buddies and decided to remain in Vietnam. Mario had a friend on the same platoon with whom he had agreed on a pact to attend the funeral of which ever one of them died first and bring a wire ear ring that they had made for themselves out on the battle field. unfortunately the parents did not know of this pact and did not request his friends attendance to his funeral in Robstown. According to my aunt, that soldier did show up at her doorstep years later to fulfill the agreement they had entered. Mario was a great guy and we still miss him dearly. He was full of life. Both of my brothers were so hurt that they went to a local recruiter to sign up. Neither one passed the physical. My oldest brother cried when he was turned down by the selective service.
