Fellow Medic

I just learned of Richards passing. I believe we met in Cu Chi at the Aid Station prior to Richard's going to the field. I remember he was older than most of us.I wish I had known him better. Rest in Peace brother until the trumpet sounds. God Bless and keep your family.

He is remembered

This is a photo of PFC Richard N. DeAngelis, USA. He was 32 years old when he was killed in action in Veitnam 16 October, 1968. Richard was a Combat Field Medic caring for the wounded when a night mortar round struck. During his 6 weeks in Vietnam he earned several medals and ribbons including the Bronze Star and the Silver Star for Gallantry in Action.

Besides his parents, Nicholas and Mary DeAngelis, he left behind a loving younger sister (myself), a wife, Rosemary M. DeAngelis and a 7 year old son, Mark. Richard volunteered for the Army having already served in the Navy when he was younger. I was reading about the Penfolds and how grateful his mother was that they were able to receive his body home and bury him. We felt that way, too. We knew that we had proof it was him and were able to honor him with a military funeral.
We, his family, have visited The Wall, and like everyone, we were awed at what we saw. It is so massive, so beautiful, and with all those names, you can only talk in quiet tones.

Richard was an inspiration to me. When things would get tough in my life and I wanted to walk away from difficult situations, I would think of him and remember that he did not walk away. He faced what was before him with strength and courage. We are so proud of him, but it's been difficult. His son grew up without his father, but he's always with us in spirit.
