Remembering An American Hero
Dear LCPL Tommie Ray Angel, sir
As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.
May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

I served with tommie in Bravo Co He was a good marine. We all felt bad when he left us. We all remember him for his courage. And he would always step up and did whatever to save a friend. Semper Fi Brother

Tommie Ray Angel
LCPL Tommie Ray Angel was born in May of 1945 in the city of Corbin in the southeastern part of KY. He was the son of Cora Hight and Morris Angel. his parents moved from Kentucky to Dearborn to find work.
He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in March of 1969, and did his boot camp at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, California.
LCPL Angel arrived in Vietnam in Spetember of 1969. While in Vietnam. Tommie served in B Company, 1st Battalion, 7th Marines. His primary duty was that of a machine gunner. On May 25th 1970, Tommie was serving as a point man near the amlet of Phu Trach in the Quang Nam province of South Vietnam. While on patrol, Tommie approached a Vietnamese man and asked him to identify himself. He has walked into an ambush, and was killed by enemy fire. He was 20 years old.
Tommie was awarded the Purple Heart for his service in Vietnam, along with the Navy Commendation Medal, the Combat Action Ribbon, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal.
LCPL Angel is buried at the Mitchell Family Cemetery in Yeader, Kentucky. It is a small family cemetary located in the Appalachian Mountains and overlooking property that still belongs to his family.
