I was scheduled to volunteer for the draft in 1968 with Jerry and Brad Cousino in 1968.

I was scheduled to volunteer for the draft in 1968 with Jerry and Brad Cousino. The three of us were to go in on the "buddy system" that guaranteed trains together. Jerry and I were both already on the waiting list for the Naval Air Reserves at the time, but it did not protect you from the draft... Jerry was tired of waiting and he and Brad Cousino got on the bus for Cleveland for induction, but I chickened out deciding the two years in the Navy would be a better deal. Several weeks later, the Navy called and I left for boot camp. Later in 1969 when I was home on leave I ran into Brad and asked where Jerry was, he told me the he had just escorted Jerry's body home at the request of his parents... That's when I realized that I had made the right decision!
