1st LT John Darling

I have memories of our time at Fremont High School, John. We met in the 9th grage and graduated together in 1964, though we were not close friends. I knew you as a fine athlete, good student, an all around stand-up guy.

Our lives took different paths after school. You went to West Point, became and officer, and went to Vietnam where you lost your life.

Out of respect for your sacrifice for out country, I put a wreath on your grave at Christmas time this year.

Your were a friend, classmate, fellow veteran. May you rest in peace.
Sgt. Harry Deur, US Army Vietnam.

A Guy I'll Never Forget

John (J.D.) was a sweet, kind, honorable soul. We went to his senior prom together and enjoyed a close friendship all during his first summer and Fall at West Point. If possible, I would like to send his letters to a West Point classmate.

A GREAT OFFICER

Served in Charlie Company 2/506 69-70. Met Lt. Darling at the commo shack near the landing pad before we were sent back out. We bought a soda from him and asked if he was hiring. He took my name and Russ Peters. We never thought much of it till about 30 days later when he requested us to his unit. Will never forget what he did for us and what a great person he was. I will never forget you RIP.
