THANK YOU
Dear Sp4 Otis Darden,
Thank you for your service as an Infantryman. I hate that you died on your birthday, sigh. Today is Good Friday, and Passover begins tonight. Easter is coming up. Happy Easter. It is so important for us all to acknowledge the sacrifices of those like you who answered our nation's call. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage and faithfulness. Rest in peace with the angels.

Final Mission of SP4 Otis J. Darden
SP4 Otis J. Darden was an infantryman serving with Air Cavalry Troop, 11th Armored Cavalry. On February 3, 1968, his unit was assigned a routine reconnaissance mission in an area called K4 Woods, four miles northeast of Lai Khe, Binh Duong Province, RVN. SP4 Darden was being trained by his squad leader to walk point. Although anticipating enemy contact on this mission, Darden wanted to take point. Leading a column into a tree line, Darden was fatally wounded when a heavy volume of enemy fire from a trench line and well-fortified bunkers suddenly errupted. The attack came too quick for the soldiers to take cover. Darden was recovered by two comrades for evacuation. He was dead by the time the dustoff (medical evacuation by helicopter) arrived at Lai Khe. [Taken from the book American Warrior by J.C. Bahnsen Jr.]
