Miss you John
My name is John Colasurdo. I Served with John in the 25th infantry Division, company C 1/27th wolfhounds. I was with him the day he was killed. The date is incorrect. It actually was January 3, 1967, not January 8. It was probably a typo.
John was a friend. The kindest gentilest giving person you could ever find. He took his job seriously and was nothing short of brave. He was killed in a "hot LZ" after many hours of combat. Our M16 rifles jammed, and we were sitting ducks. John, if I remember had a M79 grenade launcher and was the reason many of us survived. I remember John standing up and attacking, almost single handed with his weapon, which was one the of the few that still were working. I was the company Radio operator. Our frequency was being jammed, but Battalion would 't believe it and refused to switch to the alternate. IT was a very frustrating day.
John will always be in my mind and heart. His loss was a great one to his family and the people that never had the opportunity to meet him.
Miss you John every day. You are the reason many of us survived that day. You are the best! What a waste and a lie that war was.
Good night John.
