1967 summer vacation with the family
It was 1967 I was 7 yo . You were born to you mother and our father some years earlier. I’d never met you or knew of you till that summer. We weren’t raised together so I never got the chance to really know you. I was the youngest of all the siblings as a result I remember meeting you but that’s it. So to anyone who reads this if you knew Roger , I’d like to hear some of your stories of him. I was only 10 when he died so don’t remember much. Thank you Roger for your ultimate sacrifice. I think you would have be proud to know your younger brothers all joined the service as well. Mike was in the army, Gary Wayne was a cook in the marines I was 101st in the Arkansas army national guard 1 yr 9 months transferred to United States Air Force 3rd aircraft generation squadron. Was a radar and missile guidance systems specialist. I wish I’d got to know you. I’ll be with you in the ever after.

We went to school together at Harrodsburg and played marbles on the playground. Ms Hill was our first and second grade teacher. I remember you use to pull my long curls as a joke….Ive thought of you often through the years. You were a wonderful friend. Thank you so much Roger for the memories and your dedication to America.

Gratitude
Here I am reading a book, Character Edge, the section about Marines who gave their lives for our country, and memories of you came flooding in. We were acquaintances in high school. We respected each other but didn't associate with each other outside of school. You went to the Marines; me to college. I'd heard you died but didn't know the details until reading other remembrances posted on your wall. Your bravery in battle is impressive as attested to by fellow Marines who were with you. Our country and, in particular, my life has been made secure in no small measure because of you. Some 50 years later, you are still on my mind. Please accept my gratitude for your service. You were a leader in high school and on the field of battle. While you life was short, too short, you set the example and we are better for it. Thank you.
