Officer and Soldier of Distinction

We were in skirmishes with the NLF together together, and you were a real inspiration to the Platoon in my eyes, as we had some good chats together. May the Good Shepherd cast a smile upon your soul every day, and you are always remembered in my memory prayers.

That night

I remember being at my sister's house, Ruth Wysong. She and Shelby, Richard's wife were best friends. I remember meeting Richard before he left for Vietnam and the smile, laughter that he had. I was only 11 when he was killed. I will never forget the night that Shelby called to tell Ruth that he'd been killed. I think of him every year upon the anniversary of his death. I know he was hero trying to save his squad.
